The saying ‘April showers bring May flowers’ was put into effect today and yesterday (although I am not sure some of my flowers will wait until May). It rained and hailed yesteday, and was still raining today. The Sioux river is mildly flooding many areas along its banks.
Today is Palm Sunday, and I am very excited for Lent to be over and Easter to arrive.

Today Alexander and I were outside, and we were playing with a three-year-old neighbor girl named Maya. Since she has no sisters of her own, she suddenly decided I was her older sister. When she told her dad “This is my sister,” Alexander became possesive and declared very loud and firm: “No, mine!”

Today I had a ballet exam. That is when older ladies come and watch you dance to make sure you know how to do the exercizes. They may ask you questions such as ‘what does plier (PLEE-ay) mean’ (answer: to bend.) They also watch for imperfections such as bending a leg which is supposed to be straight. I learn the results on Sunday or Monday.

What a day! What a lovely day! The robins are singing, flowers are on their way up, and it is just lovely! These words from the Magnificat somewhat describe my feelings, I have been thinking of them a lot today: ‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.’
Landon bought me a little present for no reason at all! Wasn’t that nice? He let me choose two boxes of flowers from Sunshine to plant. I chose lillies of the valley (what a pretty name) and more mixed colors of columbine (my favorite flower.) Here I am planting them.

The temperature has been creeping steadily up, as has my height. Today when I brought down my summer clothes, I found that almost everything is too short! So we went on an emergency shopping day this afternoon! Most of my shirts came out of the juniors section instead of the girls section! I am getting older!

Today was the city spelling bee. I got into it by competing against other homeschoolers in the annual homeschool spelling bee and winning. I came in forth place and won a trophy that is exactly two feet tall. A man from the newspaper that hosted the bee talked to me while writing stuff down. It was very fun.

March 13! I had a nice birthday party with an egg spoon relay race and a scavenger hunt. I had a good day.

I am studying botany this year in science. Today I learned about monocots and dicots.
A monocot is a seed with only one Cotyledon. They have long leaves with veins running vertically. There is no midrib in leaves of this catagory. Often their roots are fiberous. Another interesting thing about monocots is the number of petals the flowers have are usually multiples of three!
A dicot is a seed with two Cotyledons. Their leaves have a midrib and veins branching out on both sides. Often their root system is a tap root systemhe number of petals in a dicot flower is usually a multiple of four or five.
These pictures are a mix of moncots and dicots. If you want to break the code of the previous post, Figure out the pattern of monocots and dicots. A monocot would have a #1, and a dicot would have a #2. For example: if the pictures went monocot dicot monocot monocot the code would be: 1211. Have fun!

Last night there was another quiz bowl. I was not a captain this time. My team came in 7th place. That might sound pretty good until I tell you that there was seven teams. Oh well. There is always next time.

It is blowing snow and sleet everywhere. We are scheduled to get 20 inches of snow and forty miles an hour winds today, tonight, and tomorrow. A number of things were cancelled for the blizzard, including the homeschool ballet and tap classes we have every Thursday.
As I do yearly on March first, I began the countdown to my birthday, which is March thirteenth. This year I shall be twelve years old.
