Angelica and Augustine

J+M+J

We decided to name the babies that died in Mom’s miscarriage a few days ago and the miscarriage before Maria. Landon, Maria, John, and I got to name the babies. We called the first baby Augustine Michael and the second baby Angelica Therese.

“Bebe”

J+M+J

I have found it to my advantage to revert back to when I was younger and carry a doll around the house. Why? Because ever since Joseph learned the word ‘baby’ and the dolls were brought out, he can’t get enough of them! He hauls them around, shows them to Mom and I and wants us to rock them, no matter what we are doing. He will point them and call them, “Bebe.” and then he will point out its nose, and my nose, and Mom’s nose, and Maria’s, and Landon’s, and the nose of anyone else that he can find. The good part is, if I sit on the couch and invite Joseph to see the two dolls I have, he will hug them. He also gives me love as well.

Funny Alex

J+M+J

Joseph was getting dressed in his room. Alexander, aka Darth Vader, came in solemnly, all dressed in black with a towel/cape, humming the Theme of the Dark Side. He had a gun in his hand, and he carefully took aim. Before he shot his gun, he itched his nose with the back of the gun he was holding. Then he shot. Mom said, “That would be a great thing to accidentally have in the movie.”

Bent Cookie Cutters Joke

J+M+J

Landon was going through cookie cutters. He showed a bent one to me and said, “This one is a little out of shape.” I responded, “Yes, it needs some exercise.”

Nice Brothers

J+M+J

Joseph and Alex were fighting over who would sit on the exercise bike chair. Not to do anything, just to sit. So I lifted them both up onto the chair. They were both pleased at this remedy. I said, “There, now sit like nice brothers.” A little while later Joseph started to try to push Alex off the chair. “Help, Sarah.” Alexander said. “Joseph not being ‘nite buter’.”

“Wake up, Alex”

J+M+J

It was time to wake up Alex. Joseph had just woken up, and I was holding him. We went into the room where Alexander was asleep and I put Joseph down on the bed. Joseph saw sleeping Alex and laid down beside him. I, too laid beside Alex and began to rub his back while saying “Alexander, wake up.” He wouldn’t wake up, he was so tired. Joseph thought it was hilarious that Alex was asleep. He laughed, then put Alexander out of his mind and began to play with me. I love playing with Joseph, because when he plays with me I get lots of hugs and kisses. Then Joseph became concerned that Alex was asleep and began to rub Alexander’s back vigorously, talking worriedly. When Alex finally was up, Joseph was much relieved.

Telling the story ruins it. You would have to be there to know what it was like. I love Alex and Joseph.

Tracks in the Snow

J+M+J

The snow is like a record book, which can say who has been in it, if the reader knows what animals leave what tracks. It is amazing to see all the rabbit tracks in the snow that weren’t there last night. It makes me wonder, is there a rabbit (or rabbits) all over our yard every night?

Nutcracker

J+M+J

Today Mom took me to see the Nutcracker. We almost couldn’t go because the van’s headlights got left on, which drained the battery. We had to take Dad’s truck. It was fun watching my friends and classmates perform.

Snow

J+M+J

Thursday night there was only a dusting of snow. Now it is snowing and we are scheduled for up to ten inches! Alexander is delighted.

Dedication of December

J+M+J

December is dedicated to the Infant Jesus.

Morning Prayer to the Infant Jesus.

O Dear sweet Infant Jesus, I offer You my will, that You strengthen it, my mind that You inspire it; my memory that You fill it; my wishes and desires, that You cleanse them, I sacrifice to You; my intentions that You guide them, all my inner and outer activities, that You make them sacred. All I am and all I have is Yours. Your love for me is my hope and trust. Hear me and grant that I may never leave you.
Amen

Geography Bee

J+M+J

Today I won the geography bee! There were only five people I was competing against, but the questions were hard. I got three wrong, and I was asked around fourteen to fifteen. There were several questions I never thought I would get right. The first was, “Persian rugs are often decorated with flowers and ornate geometric designs. They originated in which present day country?” I knew that the empire of Persia turned into Iran, but I thought maybe the empire was so vast that it expanded over one of Iran’s neighbors, and that the rugs originated in that part of Persia. Iran was my best answer, though, and it was correct. The other question was more difficult, and I almost said the wrong answer. The question was, “India is bordered to the north by two landlocked countries. Name one of them.” I almost said China, but I remembered it wasn’t landlocked. Nepal was a tiny country that bordered China to the south, but did it border India? It did. The other answer I could have given was Bhohal, another tiny country, of which I have never heard.

To prepare for the bee, I played computer games on a site that I have in my blog roll. I practiced being able to see the outline of a state and knowing what state it was, and where it was at. That came in handy more than once, not only when we were given a map to answer questions about but being able to visualize the state in my head. I listened to a song that had all the capitals of the USA, but I never needed to know that. I studied rivers, lakes and mountains in the USA, and I used that twice. It is very hard to prepare for the bee, though, because the field of Geography is extremely broad.

Sometime between now and January I will take a test, and if I get higher than a certain score, I will go on to the state bee. I am reading lots of books on countries!

Mixed-up Words

J+M+J

Dad has said, “Foons and sporks” and Maria has called coffee, “Caffee”. I once told Alexander when I was putting him in his car seat and he wanted to play with a bowl, “Get into the bowl and I will give you it.” Today we add another mixed-up word to the collection. Mom’s, “Elf-maker and the Shelves”. She said this on accident without knowing it. If you can’t tell what she meant, it was, ‘The Shoemaker and the Elves’, the book Alexander wanted read to him.
