Last weekend, Dad decided we should take advantage of the beautiful weather (which will end to quickly) and take a motorcycle ride to a hilly forested area with the rest of the family following behind in the van. It was lovely, with the trees beginning to turn colors, and the whole family enjoyed it immensely. I shot these pictures:
Joseph: Mom, you got new pants!
Mom (pleasantly surprised): Why, yes they are, Joseph. How nice of you to notice.
Joseph (approaching and pulling a sticker off of the pants): They still have the tag on.
Joseph (on a Sunday): Alex, you know tomorrow going to be a school-day. It goes: Schoolday, Schoolday, Schoolday, Schoolday, Schoolday, then Videogameday.
It’s snowing. Again. Winter was fun at first, especially with the ice skates I got for Christmas, but now it is beginning to drag. I have found, however, that a nice, hot cup of tea really helps to warm up the whole day. Apparently the rest of the family thinks so, too, because no sooner than had I made a cup a few days ago than everyone decided they needed to have some as well. Even Daniel was in on it, saying ‘tea’ in sign language over and over again until we got him his very own cup.

Joseph (Just after getting home from shopping with Mom): “We got a present for Sarah, and we can’t tell!”
Johnathan: “What is it?”
Me: “Nooooo!”
Joseph: “Sarah, you are pretty.”
The green patrol should give us a conservations award for record low water use per child on bath day!
Rub-a-dub-dub, four men in a tub, and who do you think they be?
It’s been two years since we’ve had a homeschool All Saints Eve party, but this year it was announced on Oct 20 that we were starting up the tradition again. I spent Friday and Saturday sewing costumes, which turned out pretty well. Maria was St. Bernadette, Johnathan was St. Anthony, Alexander was St. Michael, and Joseph was St. Juan Diego. Maria and John slipped out the door before I could get a picture of them, but here are the little boys:
Daniel thought Joseph’s makeup was really interesting. (“What is it with you people in the last week? First Sarah makes her eyes really strange and now you have black on your face!”)
I made my first pleat on Alex’s bottoms, and it turned out pretty well.
Daniel was a lion from Noah’s Ark. This costume I didn’t make.
He found the mane a little annoying.
But that’s OK, because he has a mane of his own!
When we got home, everybody dived into their candy. Maria didn’t like caramel apples, so she gave hers to me.
Chewy pieces of candy are a good way to lose teeth.
Mom: Joseph, you haven’t been outside all day today. Why don’t you go play?
Joseph (Gloomily): Because of the sun. I hate the sun.
Mom: Joseph, if you don’t get in bed, I’m going to make you change your jammies!
(They were his favorite Toy Story jammies and you could smell them from three feet away!)
Joseph(proudly holding up a pull-up): I kept my pull-up dry last night.
Maria: You did? Good boy! You get a gummy bear!
Joseph: (with a rather mischievous smile) I wore two pull-ups, see? This one’s wet, and this one’s dry !

Sunday after church, Alexander declared he was going to be a priest. When we asked Joseph if he was going to be a priest also, he responded, “No, I’m gonna be the muffin man, remember?”
“Do you like eating muffins, Joseph?” Dad asked.
“Yes, but I even more like making muffins,” he replied.
So, today I made lemon poppy seed muffins with the muffin man.

Two days before his fourth birthday, he mounted the bike without training wheels and took off.
Without any practice at all, he rode immediately. It has been the same way for the last two boys, who have all been experts on their scooters. So, we’re pretty sure that the scooters must build up their balance really well, and makes a much easier transition to a two wheeled bike.

I guess this explains the 100+ wasps we had all over our porch last year. This gigantic nest was revealed when the roofers pulled off all our shingles to replace them.
