Apartment Container Gardening-Morning Glories in Pots

Friday, July 13, 2018 by Sarah Leave a Comment

The limitations of apartment gardening are new to me, so everything I try this year is an experiment. I don’t know what plants will continue to flower with only three hours of dappled sunlight. I’ve only planted with seeds in soil so I don’t know which annual or perennial seedlings are content in pots.

I wrapped some morning glory seeds in a damp paper towels six weeks ago for a day and a half, then planted them in my pots. I’ve fertilized once since then, and been rewarded with graceful vines twining round the patio railing.

The Daffodils

Sunday, April 30, 2017 by Sarah Leave a Comment
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
y
y
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
y

 y
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
 y

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
~William Wordsworth

This is why they are called 'balloon flowers.'

Raspberries. We got to eat a handful today, and another handful is still ripening. Really good, since you aren't supposed to get any the first year you plant them.
